OTG cable

You can use OTG cable to connect it to your nexus 7 and provide you with a extra USB slot.

Why do you need a extra USB slot? Having a extra USB slot, you will be able to plug in flash drive for extra storage or you can get a USB to Ethernet adapter which help increase your internet speed through wired connection or connect it to a USB keyboard or mouse.

Below are some of the different kinds of OTG cable.

Lifetime warranty T & S Electronics Micro USB OTG Cable

Brand: T & S Electronics

According to them, their OTG cables had the best quality (Made of high quality copper wire) among all the other OTG cable, true? I think there is high possibility that is true as T & S Electronics offer customer a lifetime warranty package, if their quality had issue, i doubt they dare to offer such warranty.

If you are looking for a lifetime warranty OTG cable, you may go take a look at it although the price is slightly higher than the others.

SANOXY Micro USB Host Mode OTG Cable

Brand: SANOXY

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative for OTG cable, you may want to take a look at this OTG cable by SANOXY.

Although in the product description, it does not indicate that it works for Nexus 7 but through the comments in amazon, i think you can actually get this to work with nexus 7.

Buy this if you are looking for a temporary solution as this had quite a number of bad ratings.

If you had decided to purchase a OTG cable for extra storage or some other stuff, do note that you will need this app.

Nexus 7 does not come with native mounting system, which means your nexus 7 will not be able to detect your flash drive if it is inserted. There are currently two types of apps that had this features which i know, one will be this, the other one is stickmount. The difference between both of them is that StickMount require you to root your nexus 7 in order for it to work but Nexus Media importer does not need you to root it. Rooting your nexus 7 will void your warranty.

StickMount
StickMount is currently free although the pro version (Offer more features) will require you to pay. Nexus Media importer will be consider quite expensive as compare to StickMount pro version, maybe due to the fact that it is the only app that does not require root to use this mounting feature.
